The drive towards finding ones personal capacity to improve and develop resounds from the ability to induce new dynamics that can encourage learning and development. It stems from the willingness to supplement childhood aspirations and becomes the necessary tool and motivation to explore possible areas that can lead towards its fulfillment. Given these precepts, I seek to showcase my intention to seek out and further my interests by majoring in Architecture at UW.
Reflecting on my academic history, I had always sought to find ways to expand and cultivate my passion for learning. Such mindset has given me the capacity to adjust and adapt to any learning environment that I am in. Upon my arrival at the United States two years ago, I sought to be educated into North Seattle Community College. During my stay in the institution, I had seldom challenges and maintained a very good academic standing. At the same time, I used these experiences as a learning tool to become better.
After my first year, I now sought to expand and pursue my interest in Architecture by engaging into prerequisite classes required by UW among architecture students. In here, I had to exert a little more effort as I experienced challenges in addressing the academic requirements. However, after some time, I was able to adjust to these patterns accordingly and I was coping with the academic load. Likewise, I had also reengaged in the study of the arts particularly in drawing to harness my skills that I see relevant to my practice.
Similarly, I feel that the decision to take up architecture would not also be possible without the help of my friends and family who have supported my endeavor. Each day, I had been receiving positive inputs on how I should start the day and how to handle challenges that may come along the way. Such reality not only induced the motivation towards finding significance in what I do but also honed my skills necessary to become adaptive to the field I am seeking to pursue.
The passion towards my chosen degree stems from my personal interest in drawing and admiration of architectural designs and structures. At such a young age, I have been fascinated with new trends and changes happening in my environment. It provided the motivation and commitment towards expressing my ideas by the use of drawing. By starting early, I was able to engage in such dynamics that helped me envision my dream building and what design is applicable for such.
This endeavor then provided the inspiration to develop my drawing skills. In here, I saw everyday as an opportunity to improve my depiction of reality and develop my personal touch in the process. This effort gave the opportunity to engage in numerous drawing contests wherein I emerged as a winner. Thus, I am proud to say that my participation in such endeavors during middle school and high school greatly infused the appropriate elements to shape and foster the necessary background in the field of architectural design.
Coming from a developing country (Indonesia), I deem finding new areas that I can contribute back. In here, it involves providing new developments such as city planning and residential places that cultivate and cater towards environmental responsibility. Given the current state of Jakarta, there is indeed a need to rethink and propose new directives that can induce a facilitative environment for its future inhabitants.
Seeing this, I do feel privileged to have the capacity to study in the United States. Reflecting back, my family was not lucky as I am because they are unable to pursue their education to college. Likewise, being the first person to attend college, I feel the need to become the best that I can be so that I can provide a better future for my family in Indonesia. Regardless of their predicament, I do believe that I was raised with the necessary values and proper mindset in addressing the challenges in life. In part, I feel proud of my culture as it portrays something unique to the rest of the world. This is something I wish to impart among members of my community as an effort to give back what is due and essential.
Likewise, my immersion in extra-curricular activities such as sports also paved the way for gaining discipline and proper mindset about things. My involvement in soccer in both as a player and captain supplemented leadership strategies and fostered values such as camaraderie and teamwork. In turn, these principles correspond to greater capacity to interact with both colleagues today and potential clients in the future. It is in here that I feel the need to share and showcase the cultural facets necessary not only to develop better appreciation of our heritage but also seek a new way to promote a new way to address and balance modernity with our past.
Given these elements, I feel that I have the skills and capacity to become accepted in the architecture program at UW. I have given sufficient effort and understanding the field and sought to redefine my perspectives in both achieving and harnessing knowledge and background related to the specialization. Since this process entails handling both the technical and theoretical principles, I deem to align my personal values and correspond to something that the UW shares and envisions.
Due to this, I seek not to apply for a second choice in my major because I am sure that the field of architecture is the best. I do feel that I can gain the satisfaction by studying what I want. It is through such process that I can use my capabilities and expertise to the fullest. I have prepared for this all my life and I do feel that I am more competent and ready to overcome all the obstacles that may come along the way.
